Absolutely brilliant teaching from Anthony, very good at explaining and demonstrating the choreography and gives great advice.

Also love the online tutorial that we have access to in the lead up to the big day.

Would highly recommend!

We had a great time.

Jen was so lovely, made us both feel at ease and I think she’s made us look like pros!!

We were both very nervous about our first dance but we wanted to do something nice.

Anthony was amazing, very relaxed but yet he got us dancing at a level way beyond what we were expecting.

We are very grateful

Quick Tips for a Beautiful First Dance

Tip No 1: Keep your dance to under 3 minutes.

Choreographing a 2.5-minute dance is a lot easier and a lot more manageable than a 5-minute song.

Don't worry if the song you picked is longer than 3 minutes (most of them are ), they are a couple of ways you can deal with that.

You could for example cut the music using a free tool like Audacity if you are using a D.J.

With a band, simply tell them exactly what you are looking for.

A better option in our opinion is to get your wedding party to join you on the dance floor at a specific time. It's easy to organise, gives a smooth transition to the next phase of the evening, it's fun and it looks great.

Tip No 2: Make a plan.

We are not talking about the dance per se yet, but more about the overall plan:

  • Make sure that the First Dance is announced clearly and at the right time.
  • Know your entrance. Here are few questions for you: Are you going to walk on the floor together hand in hand or meet in the middle of the floor? Are you going to walk on the floor while the music is playing or is the music going to start once you are on the floor? Who is going to signal when the music should start and has that been made clear to the band or DJ? ...
  • Know your exit: Are you dipping, bowing? Are pictures being taken? If your wedding party is supposed to join you on the dance floor, make sure someone in that party is in charge of making sure everyone is ready to walk on the floor at the right time.
  • Know the layout of the room and the dance floor. Be aware of where your guests will stand as this will define your line of dance.

Tip No 3: Posture and Smile.

Whatever happens, keep a good posture and keep smiling!

This sounds a lot easier than it actually is. It is also the most important thing to remember.

Regardless of what happens on the dance floor, if you are standing tall and smiling you will look good, if you appeared worried and ill at ease you won't look good, no matter how skilled of a dancer you are.

Tip No 4: Take a dance lesson.

Admittedly we might be a bit biased but you will be amazed at what a difference a couple of hours with a choreographer makes. Especially if you are complete novices.

We understand that for some of us, taking a dance lesson might be a little out of our comfort zone but the alternative is standing clueless and embarrassed in the middle of a dance floor with 100 pairs of eyes set on you on the most important day of your life.

No one ever regrets taking a dance lesson.

Tip No 5: Practice.

Once you have learned what you needed to learn, practice!

Practicing will obviously improve your dance but it will also help you grow your confidence and it's fun!
